We Love Beetroot!

September 19, 2018

Hands up if you love beetroot! We just can't get enough of it.

Beetroot has exceptional nutritional value, especially the greens, which are rich in calcium, iron and vitamins A and C. Beetroots are an excellent source of folic acid and a very good source of fibre, manganese and potassium.

It is particularly good for children because of the availability of the vitamins and minerals, particularly iron. High iron content in the body helps in producing red blood cells, supplies oxygen to the various parts of the body and also has a major role in brain development in the early months.

Beetroot promotes blood circulation in the brain. Increased brain activity in the early years of development will lead to optimum brain functioning in the later years.

If at first your child is hesitant to eat beetroot, turn it into a game! Pink urine is extremely entertaining for most children. Soon they will be happily eating it.

Here are a couple of our favourite ways to eat beetroot...

Beetroot chips (made in exactly the same way as our sweet potato chips)

Juiced and added to smoothies and ice lollies

Added to salads to bulk them up

Or, as the hero of our favourite salad....
