They say it takes a village to raise a child and these days moms are lacking that support. Whether you have a mom tribe or not #MamaMeetupSA is a great way to connect with other moms and do a fun activity. Each month they organise a different activity.
The October Mama Meetup was a ‘Lunch On The Go’ cooking class at the Discovery Vitality HealthyFood Studio. What a great morning out! It’s always great seeing friends and making new ones at the Mama Meetups. This was a particularly fun one for me because we were doing what I love best (cooking!) in one of Joburg’s best kitchens.
At the new Discovery Vitality HealthyFood Studio fresh, seasonal ingredients, real nutrition and sustainable eating all come together with a dash of delicious – a teaching and dining kitchen located in Sandton, Johannesburg where you can take part in fun and interactive cooking classes to help ignite a life-long love of healthy, appetising cooking.
After coffee and delicious, sugar-free snacks we watched as the HealthyFood Studio chefs (provided by Prue Leith chefs academy) did a demonstration for us.
Each person then chose a recipe and found a workstation. The workstations are kitted out with KitchenAid appliances and beautifully laid out with everything you need there for you. There was plenty of staff on hand who were all quick to help and remove dirty dishes etc.
I chose to make the smoky aubergine dip. The recipe was well laid out and easy to follow and all the ingredients and necessary appliances were ready for me. I did adjust the recipe slightly to my own taste. It is one of those recipes that you will want to make at home (I have already!).
After cooking we shared a wonderful meal of the dishes we made. My favourites were seed loaf with the smoky aubergine dip and the frittata.
I highly recommend you sign up for one of the cooking courses offered at the Discovery Vitality HealthyFood Studio. The quality of the food and recipes is outstanding. The decor and presentation of the food and drinks is simple and stylish and the staff and friendly and helpful. The attention to detail is amazing, from the gorgeous aprons to the Woolworths soaps and hand towels at the hand washing station. There are various courses available to suit various dietary requirements (all healthy!). This would make a great date night or girls’ night. And best of all, they offer courses for kids (ages 8 to 12).
They are running a buy one, get one free special (excluding master classes and kids classes). If you’re planning on booking one of their cooking courses as a Christmas gift I recommend booking now (you can do that here) as their courses for the remainder of the year are selling out fast.
There is one last Mama Meetup for 2018, taking place on Thursday, 15 November (that’s next week guys!). Don’t miss out! Check it out on their Facebook page. Tickets are R250 per person and can be booked by emailing email@example.com.
